Please Read The Following Points Before Proceeding:
  • Your server must be a stable UNIX type host with an average of a week's uptime.
  • Your server must be able to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ports 6660-6668 available with one dedicated IP address.
  • Your server must have a minimum uplink connection* speed of 640kbps (*cablemodem or satellite links are not accepted.)
  • You and all your proposed opers must be regular Chatster.org users, and registered with NickServ for 90+ days.

This form will guide you through requesting a link server to Chatster IRC network. Please answer all questions. When you are finished, press the [Submit] button. Please read thoroughly our network policy before proceeding.

The primary requirements for running a server on Chatster.org are:

  1. Written system administration approval. Please include verifyable contact information in the appropriate space on the application form. This must be an administrator from the HOSTING SITE / UPLINK location.
  2. Stable UNIX host available 24 hours a day with an average of a week's uptime. The kernel should also be able to handle a minium of 1024 clients, and the server must be configured to allow a minium of 450 client connections.
  3. Reliable, enthusiastic, co-operative and friendly admins/opers. During the testlink period you are only allowed one O:line on your server (or, if proven necessary, an additional O:line for your server co-adminstrator.) You may have as many o:lines (local opers) as required.
  4. The server must accept client connections on port 6667, and port 7029 for inter-server routing.
    Additional P:line required are 6660-6668 for clients.
  5. I agree to comply with all current and future decisions by the Routing Committee or Chatster in general. (please read our network policy.)
  6. Uplink Connectivity is not cablemodem or satellite connection.
  7. I and my proposed oper(s) have been regular Chatster.org users, and registered with NickServ for 90+ days.
Information required about your server:
Server name
The machine's real hostname and IP address.
Administration info
Enter the full names of people running the machine at the HOSTING SITE / UPLINK location and their e-mail addresses.
Server version
You must run the latest Unreal ircd program that Chatster originally used from http://www.unrealircd.com.
Any restrictions on usage, number of users, etc. if any such restrictions apply.
Server host type and OS and other information.
Please also include information about the hardware, such as the amount of memory, and what other services the machine runs or will (not) run, such as HTTP/news/mail servers, and what other restrictions the machine has, such as a limit of 256 fd's per process. Output from the uname -a limit/ulimit -a, and dmesg commands are required.
Reliability information
such as the average uptime for the host. Output from the uptime command is required.
Full name of the IRC administrator, nickname used, and e-mail address. (Note, IRC administrator is global oper status.)
Ping/Traceroute statistics - Ping the Chatster Hub Servers for Test Links
with 100 packets of 1024 bytes, to obtain summaries; e.g.,
 ping -s servername 1024 100 | tail -3        (Solaris)
 ping servername -s 1024 -c 100 | tail -3 (most others)
Then traceroute the Chatster servers. Paste ping summaries and all traceroute output here.
Nicknames and email addresses of your opers. (Note, if you choose this option, these opers will be local status.)
Uplink info - size (T1, OC3, etc) and provider (MCI, UUnet, etc.) To be considered for an Chatster link, your site must be on a MINIMUM of 640kbps uplink or higher. Please give an overview of ALL connections including speed, type, etc.
All Chatster servers have DNS aliases under the Chatster.org domain. List your server name (in the form - city, state/province, country ) which follows this format - location is the HOSTING SITE / UPLINK location.
Please list any experience you have with operating/administering IRC servers, and how many users you expect to bring to Chatster.org with this server.
