WebTV CONNECT - IRC

To Chat on CHATSTER via WebTV, you must do the following:

1. Return to WebTV home page
2. Select Community
3. Select Chat
4. Select Go to
5. Enter the following: 6. Select Connect

Once you successfully connect, you chat by typing into the text field at the bottom of the chat screen. Then choose Send (or hit the Enter key on your keyboard).

There are many commands available when using WebTV to IRC, here is a complete list of commands supported by the default WebTV client.

NOTE: You must use the "/" at the beginning of the command lines as shown in the examples. Do NOT use the "[" or "]" as the brackets only signify that you must specify information in that area.

Command /join [channel]
Example /join trivia
What It Does Joins the specified channel.

Command /me [message]
Example /me smiles.
What It Does Creates an "action" text by appearing as "Your-nickname smiles."

Command /msg [nick] [message]
Example /msg Guest Hello, how are you?
What It Does Sends a private message (whisper) to the nick you specify. No one else will see your message but that user.

Command /topic [message]
Example /topic Come Play Trivia!
What It Does Changes the channel topic if the channel settings allows access to do so.

Command /who
Example /who
What It Does Lists the nicknames of everyone in the channel with some information about them.

Command /whois [nickname]
Example /whois Guest
What It Does Retrieves public information about a user.

Command /ignore [nick]
Example /ignore Guest
What It Does Ignores all messages from that user.

Here is a list of things you CANNOT do with WebTv:

    * Be in more than one channel at a time.
    * Change text style, size or color.
    * Play or hear sound files.
    * Transfer files, also called DCC (Direct Client Communication).
